A. Present and Past Tense Review

Using the words in parentheses, complete the text below with the appropriate tenses

Lars: Excuse me, which movie are you waiting for?

Tony: We (wait)  for the new Stars Wars movie. In fact, we (wait)  here for more than five hours.

Lars: Five hours? When did you arrive?

Tony: We (get)  here at 6:00 o'clock this morning. More than forty people (stand, already)  here waiting for tickets when we arrived.

Lars: I can't believe that! Are you serious?

Tony: Yeah, people (take)  Star Wars movies seriously. In fact, this particular showing has been sold out for over a week. We (wait, just)  in line to get a good seat in the theater.

Lars: When did you buy your tickets?

Tony: I (buy)  them last week by phone. I (know)  tickets would be hard to get because I (see)  a news interview with a group of people standing in line to get tickets. They (wait)  in line for almost a month to buy tickets for the first showing.

Lars: I don't believe that!

Tony: It's true. They (camp)  out in front of Mann's Chinese Theater in Los Angeles for about a month because they (want)  to be the first people to see the movie.

Present Perfect vs Past Simple

Choose either the present perfect or the past simple to go into each sentence.

Use contractions where possible but only for negatives: haven't, didn't, etc.

B. Asking politely someone something

C. Time Prepositions: At, In, On

Put in the correct preposition (choose in / on / at or no preposition)

B. Time Prepositions: For, During and While HOW TO USE DURING during is a preposition which is used before a noun (during + noun) to say when something happens. It does not tell us how long it happened. For example: "Nobody spoke during the presentation." "We get plenty of snow here during the winter." HOW TO USE WHILE When is used to talk about two things that are happening at the same time. The length of time is not important. Remember that while is used with a subject and a verb (while + subject + verb). For example: "The phone rang while I was watching TV." "I met him while we were studying in the library." HOW TO USE FOR For is a preposition which is used with a period to say how long something goes on: "Simon has been sleeping for 8 hours." "We waited for 30 minutes outside your house." 1. I worked duringwhilefor the holidays.  2. We'll walk whileduringfor an hour. then we'll have a rest.  3. She is gardening whileduringfor her husband is painting the chairs.  4. Bob called me whileduringfor the meeting  5. We met forduringwhile the barbecue party.  6. I've been waiting for them whileduringfor two hours.  7.
